Split a chat with your AI employee into topics, one per task
For everyone who works with an AI employee
Split one long chat with your AI employee into topics, like threads: a launch, a hire, a contract. Each subject gets its own tab, and your AI employee answers inside the topic you write in.
Early access: switched on for selected companies.

Why it matters
When one AI employee handles many jobs for you, its chat fills up fast. Topics keep each job apart in the same chat, and answers focus on the subject you are in. A question in another topic is often answered while a longer task is still in progress.
- Before
- One long chat held every task, and a new message waited until your AI employee had finished answering the one before.
- Now
- Each task has its own topic tab, and a message in one topic is often answered while another topic is still in progress.
What you get
- One chat, many topics: move any message into a topic and it shows in that topic's tab. One message can sit in several topics, and messages you have not moved stay in the main tab.
- Answers focus on the topic: write inside a topic and your AI employee answers with that topic in focus. It still has the rest of the chat for context, but uses only the files in that topic.
- Several tasks in progress: a message in a second topic is often answered while your AI employee is still working in another one. Inside one topic, messages are answered in order.
- Only you see your topics: other people never see your topics or which messages you put in them, and only you can change them.
- Invisible until you use it: a chat shows no topic tabs until you create its first topic, on phone, tablet and computer.
- Nothing is deleted: moving a message never deletes it, and a move can be undone. Remove a topic and its messages go back to the main tab.
How to use it
Topics are in early access: switched on for selected companies, with nothing for you or your admin to set up. They work the same way on phone, tablet and computer.
Create your first topic
In the chat with your AI employee, touch and hold a message, or right-click it on a computer, and choose Move to Topic. On a phone or tablet, New Topic opens straight away the first time; on a computer, choose New Topic…. Keep the name taken from the message or type your own, pick a color and choose Create.
Move more messages
Turn on Include Later Messages to move everything after that message too, or choose Select to pick several messages at once. A question and its answer move together.
Write inside a topic
Open a topic's tab and write as usual. The message field shows the topic's name, and your AI employee answers in that topic.
Example Draft the beta invite email for March 18 and list who still needs access.
Keep your topics tidy
Open the list of all topics at the end of the tab row to rename, recolor, pin, mute, close or remove a topic. When you remove a topic, its messages go back to the main tab, General. Nothing is deleted.
Good to know
- Moved the wrong message? Choose Undo within five seconds.
- While your AI employee answers in another topic, that tab shows typing dots and a line names the topic. Tap or click the line to jump there.
- Searching a chat? Choose This Topic or Whole Chat to decide where to look.
Updates to this feature
Each tab of a chat with topics opens at its newest message
Every tab of a chat with topics opens at its newest message on a computer, in Safari and Chrome alike, with nothing left hidden below it.
The topic list of a long chat loads much faster
In our tests the topic list loads about five times faster, and you see how many of your 100 topics you have used before you add one.
Come back to an old topic and pick up where you left off
Your AI employee brings back the topic's facts with the day it learned each one, and answers from the newest.
Each topic tab shows its own unread count
Reading one topic clears only its count, and the other topic tabs keep theirs until you open them.
Sort your chats with colleagues into your own topics
You sort a colleague's messages into your own topics, and a notification opens the message right in its topic.
